Water moves, flows, bubbling, water stands still. Water is also beautiful, restful, offers plenty of life and holds many secrets. What’s located below the surface? How many liters of water? How is the bottom course? Where are the hard layers?
Let me introduce myself, I’m Dennis Groen 37 years old and I have a passion for carp fishing and lake mapping. January 2016 I have started my company Waterdepthmaps (Waterdieptekaart) to give you the answers to the above questions.
Waterdepthmaps in association with Carpcrossing offers a complete package for lake owners. By mapping surface water it’s possible to create a detailed depth map that will give you insight in depths, the depth course, soil hardness and volumes.
We believe that the knowledge given by the depth map is a great advantage for the angler who’s pay for his expensive fishing trip. It will give the angler the opportunity to make the right peg choice for the season of the year. The depth map gives an overview about the depth course, facilities, and pegs in one eye view.
For the angler we have chosen not to show the obstacles, water lilies and weeds so the angler has still more than enough things to explore. We believe that anglers still want to do some research by their selves, of course on request I can add this to the map.
Many lake owners got a lot of complaints regarding discussions between anglers about the peg boundaries. I can draw in the peg boundaries by GPS which gives a clear peg overview with the area to fish, so there will be no discussion.
How do we do the survey: Creating a detailed depth map is time consuming. We drive a narrow raster across the lake with a boat and a depth sounder to collect the GPS, depth and hardness data. How narrower the raster, the more detailed the map will be. After the data collection the data will be processed with mapping software.
We care about the environment, we use electric engines and therefore we don’t make use of petrol engines which can pollute the water.

For example, I recently had a nice conversation with Marcel Huberts, manager from the De Koperen Plas. We have talked about creating a depth map and its benefits.
Now on Carpcrossing we will reveal the map from the Koperenplas at first!!
The Koperen Plas is a 17 meter deep water and created by the excavation of sand for the highway A28 between Meppel and Zwolle. In the expansive lake swims an original stock of approximately 60 to 70 carp with an average weight of 30 pounds. This also includes a number of units in the category of 40 pounds and there are still swimming some surprises. Contact Marcel Huberts for more info regarding bookings: +31(0)38 3032550
