It’s Autumn and one of the best catching periods of the year is started. The leaves of trees are starting to change colours and our scaly friends are getting the best colours and proportions and start with feeding especially for the winter period that is up coming. Now there are many people that believe this is the period to bait up your swims a lot also with pre baiting and for many it has proven its effectiveness.
Personally I like to use a different approach and instead of heavily baiting up and pre baiting a lot I like to pre bait with small proportions on a regular base. This means I am pre baiting every morning and evening different swims with a handful of pellets and particles. On this way I know for sure when our scaly friends start with feeding they will eat everything and start to build up confidence in my baited zones. Because most anglers bait up with a mixture of boilies, pellets and particles and are fishing on top of that with a single boilie, snowman or pop-up presentation I like to use a pellet as hook bait presentation. Many of us use pellets in there stick mixes, spot mixes and as lose feed and what surprises me is only a handful are using a pellet as hook bait while it is so effective.
Of course a pellet dissolves a lot faster than a boilie but here are tricks to expand the dissolving time of a pre drilled pellet to give an example by simply filling the holes after you put it on your hair with a dry spaghetti peace. On this way your pellet will dissolve a lot slower as it will only break down on the outside instead of the in and outside what will expand the dissolving time with 40% what is good for at least 12 hours in total. Also there are special hook bait pellets on the market with a slower dissolving time in hard and soft versions that are even flavoured only I personally prefer to use pre drilled pellets to feed and fish with. Instead of buying pre flavoured pellets I like to flavour them myself in big proportions so I can feed with them and use the same pellets on my hair.
Take 5 kg of pellets and ad your favourite liquids to it shake it up 3 times a day and keep the bucked open so all liquids can be soaked in to your pellets of choice and after 3 days they are ready to be used.
Mixing the pellets with a good mixture of particles is my favourite method and like I said earlier I pre bait several swims 2 times a day with only a hand full of this mix. I repeat this method a midweek and every time I am pre baiting I am reading the water for any signs of activity of our scaly friends.
You will notice the activity soon enough and instead of fishing the spots direct I like to give the swims time to build up more confidence in feeding by the carp so the bigger units also are getting more confidence in the swims and are starting with feeding. After one week of pre baiting several locations I decide it is time to do the first short overnight session on one of the swims. I love to use my pellet as hook bait in different set ups like a single tigernut with the hook pellet,
a pellet with a small pop-up on top of it
and as single pellet as hook bait on a semi blowback rig.
Instead of using the pellet particle mix I pre baited with I only use a mix of hemp and the pre soaked pellets. I place my rods in position and only use 2 hands of the mix around my hook bait.
After that we put on the cattle for a cup of coffee while we are enjoying the sunset. It keeps quiet in the night and just when the sun comes up one of my alpha indicator screams of and after a proper fight I can land the first stunner in all her Autumn glory.
Wow what a colours and what a start, after I released this stunner my other alpha indicator screams of and I can land the second stunner of the session. Another beautiful mirror carp with a lovely scale pattern near its tail.
It’s nine a clock in the morning and time to pack up as some work need to be done and I only got time for some short overnighters the upcoming period. As you can see the method was very successful and the next session will be on one of the other swims. I will continue with the same pre baiting tactic on several swims and will start fishing another after I harvested one of the swims to let the carp get confidence again on the harvested zones. I would like to say try it out yourself and find out how effective this method can be in your fishing.
No, co rybář, to nějaká pověra.
