The week it all came together.

It’s the first week of May and it’s time to get behind the rods again after the last trip to France. The focus will be on Mirror Lake this time a Dutch public crystal clear lake of 164 acres with an average dept of 2 meters and a lot of weed in it later in the year. Also the lake is a big part Nature reserve that is forbidden to fish and the other section has houses around it with several bays in it. I only have a couple of weeks in this out bays as the carp will move in this zones just before spawning and this is the moment you will have a change of catching some of the incredible carp this venue habitats . The most important factor is to start with locating the carp and I have been on the lookout the last weeks without any success. Well I am walking with my dog around some of the bays and I spot for the first time a small group of mirrors with one of my target fish between them.

I know this is the moment to start baiting up some GPS locations with my RT4 in this bays and I decide to use the M25 range

and a particle mix of seeds sprayed in with the Stinky Stuff Crayfish.

After I pre baited several locations I decide to load my Dinghy after dinner with my gear so I can follow the fish after I located them. While I am searching for the group of carp I spotted earlier that day I can’t find them in the first 2 bays and I come in the last bay and finally spot them again on one of my baited spots earlier that day. I decide to fish all rods with a semi blowback rig presented with a 12 mm M25 wafter.

System of choice is the Bungee lead clip system I wrote about on CC earlier this year and to make the set up complete I make large PVA sticks with the M25 stick mix and the M25 glug added in it. I push a bivy peg thru the middle of the long side and push the PVA stick flat and pull my rig thru it. I load one of my RT4 hoppers first with my rig and PVA stick and put the Seed mix on top of it with some crunched M25 boilies between it and get all my rods in position on my GPS locations.

I set up my brolly and bed chair and after 2 hours my delkim screams of and I can directly feel it’s a good fish and even have to get in my dinghy to prevent the carp to swim in the obstacles nearby. After 25 minutes I finally can land this mirror in my dinghy and after weighing it the scales points 14 kg exact.

A beautiful long male shows in front of the camera and after it I release this stunner. Yes first fish is in and I decide to stay the night as well in this bay. The delkims keep quiet the night and early in the morning one of them screams of again and I rush to my rod and I strike. I feel direct this is one of the bigger ones and the fish uses all its weight to show me all corners in this out bay and after 25 minutes I can finally land her and directly see this is one of the target fish of 2016. After weighing her the scale points 20,4 kg

followed with a revealing shout Hell Yeah !!!

After she showed herself in front of the camera I release her and I get the rod back in position again with my RT4. In the mean time my little princess arrived and 10 minutes later one of my other rods screamed of again and after 10 minutes I land together with my little princess a pristine looking common and after making pictures of my little one holding this stunning fish we release it again.

I decide to have a look out of the Dinghy and have a look of I still can locate some carp in one of the bays and find a nice group in the other bay and directly pack up my gear and move to that section to continue fishing . After building base camp up again I place my rods in position with the same tactic again. The next morning one of my delkims screams of again and after she shows me several corners of this bay I finally land a stunning mirror on 16,4 kg and after she showed in front of the camera I release her again.

10 minutes later my other rods screams of and together with my little princes we land a stunning little mirror and after I made pictures of my little one holding the little one we release her again and it’s time to pack up .

I decide to give the swims and my back that is killing me a couple of days rest to continue later next week and am looking back on 4 incredible days of fishing where the locating of fish made the difference for me. I honestly believe you can only catch carp where you locate them as searching means knowing and knowing means catching.
